Mary-Jane Elliott

Mary-Jane Elliott co-founded Consilium Strategic Communications in July 2013 having led the management buy-out from M:Communications. She has more than 20 years of healthcare experience from leading communications agencies and the pharmaceutical industry and is an expert in financial, corporate, investor and scientific communications. Prior to founding Consilium, Mary-Jane established and led M:Communications’ successful international healthcare team where she advised public and private companies internationally across all sub-sectors of healthcare and including some of the sector’s leading industry bodies. She has extensive experience including advising on a wide range of high profile IPOs, secondary fundraisings, private equity placements, M&A transactions, crisis communications and clinical data and product launches. Mary-Jane worked both as a scientist and PR/IR executive at PowderJect Pharmaceuticals plc from 1997-2003 and was previously with Bell Laboratories Inc in Madison, Wisconsin, US.  Mary-Jane has a BSc (Hons) in BioMedical Sciences.

Amber Fennell

Amber Fennell is a healthcare communications specialist and co-founder of Consilium Strategic Communications. Amber has extensive experience in providing strategic communications support to some of the healthcare sector’s leading companies and has delivered successful PR campaigns, including significant sector IPOs, M&A and public and private fundraisings, across Europe and North America. Prior to founding Consilium, Amber was a member of M:Communications’ healthcare team and the Pharma & Biotech team at Citigate Dewe Rogerson. Amber also has a strong background in public affairs and lobbying, with experience from the European Parliament in Brussels, the United States Senate in Washington and work for the UK’s BioIndustry Association. Amber has a degree in International History and Politics from Leeds University and a Masters Degree in War Studies from Kings College London.

Chris Gardner, PhD

Chris has more than 15 years’ experience in strategic communications from across the healthcare sector and has worked with companies at all stages of development including for some of the world’s leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. He has led communications strategies on multiple cross-border IPOs, private fundraisings and international M&A. His corporate communication experience includes extensive profile raising campaigns to support companies’ business objectives and crisis communication.

Chris was formerly a Director in the Life Sciences team at Citigate Dewe Rogerson where he worked from 2003 to 2015 and an Associate Director at former specialist bioscience communications consultancy, HCC De Facto. He has degrees in Biological Sciences and Psychology, a background in journalism and a PhD in molecular biology.

Jonathan Birt

Jonathan has more than 20 years of experience as a leading pharmaceutical sector journalist and senior executive focused on financial, corporate, investor and medical communications. As a Managing Director at FTI Consulting and Financial Dynamics in London and New York until 2013, he specialised in financial reporting, M&A transactions, IPOs, fundraisings, media relations, media training and crisis management. Jonathan has worked with many of the world’s largest companies and led communications for a number of high profile international acquisitions. He also has extensive international experience with smaller and growth companies. Jonathan was formerly head of European equities at Reuters and head of UK equities at Dow Jones, with specific responsibility for covering the European pharmaceutical, biotechnology and chemicals sectors. He has lived and worked in the U.S, Japan, France and the UK. He has a degree in French and Spanish from Durham University.
